Joyce Ivory

Colored Kids™ and Little Folk ™ are the creations of Joyce Ivory, a visual artist. In addition to her line of dolls, Ivory works in clay, collage, soft sculpture, pastel, acrylic, and jewelry.

In 1983 Ivory founded a Michigan non-profit arts organization that provided visual arts experiences to inner city children for twenty-two years, connecting art to academics, cultures and the world of work.

“After twenty plus years of teaching and mentoring both children and adults, Colored Kids and Little Folk dolls, bring to full circle, my life long commitment to keep art in the lives of children. “

Colored Kids represent every kid, everywhere. They are a celebration and dedication to children, who they are and all that they can become. Their bright colors and crayon hats represent diversity, and acceptance.

Little Folk live in every neighborhood and village around the world. You know them; they are the aunties and uncles, grandmas and grandpas, moms and dads, mam-maws and papaws who love, care for and watch over all children near and dear.

Each Colored Kid and Little Folk is a one-of-a-kind work of art by Joyce Ivory. Many hours go into creating their bright colors, and making many of their clothes, hats, purses, backpacks, and jewelry. Their faces are painted last. Tha’ is when they come alive!

“I hope you enjoy your Colored Kid or Little Folk as much as I enjoyed creating it, and knowing the child that inspired it.”
